White-Grub Control

Grubs are the white larvae of several types of scarab beetles. The European Chafer is the worst enemy for lawns. Reproducing on an annual cycle with each adult female laying hundreds of eggs in June, their offspring eat the roots of your grass causing severe damage. The effects can be devastating, especially during hot, dry spells. The skunks and crows digging the grubs up to eat don’t help either! We offer both preventative and spot applications for the treatment of grubs.

Slit-Seeding to Repair Grub Damage & Winter Kill

We take golf course quality grass seed and plant it right into the soil with a machine that slices neat rows into the soil – right through the thatch and dead grass if necessary. This process practically guarantees the seed will germinate with the least amount of fuss

Lime Treatment

This is used to adjust the pH level of the soil. Soils along cedar hedges and under or around evergreens become acidic over time. Grass cannot survive well in these areas primarily because the acidic soil prevents it from using the nutrients. You can fertilize all you want to but the grass will continue to starve to death. Simply adjusting the pH to the proper level gives the grass in these areas the food needed to grow. This application can be applied at any time during the growing season.

Gypsum

The two main uses for this are:

  • Neutralize road salt damage in the spring.
  • Give heavy clay soils more porosity.

Tree & Shrub Fertilization

Your trees and shrubs are often the most important and expensive component of your landscape, especially when looking at mature trees and exotic shrubs, and yet we all think they should be able to look after themselves. The ICE-STORM of ’98, the drought of ’99 and the excessive wetness of 2000 were all major stresses on these plants and if you looked around this year you saw large, seemingly invincible trees dying throughout the city. The tricky thing here is that because they are so large the effects of these stresses may not show up for a year or more. Don’t overlook your trees & shrubs – full-grown trees are costly to replace and you can’t buy back the 30 years it took to grow them.

Spring Fertilization - this is especially important for the following:

  • Plants that are pruned regularly such as cedar hedges and shrubs around the home – there’s a great loss of plant energy that needs to be replaced.
  • Young trees & shrubs for which you want to encourage strong healthy growth on.
  • Trees & shrubs that are prone to pest problems such as Birch, Spruce, Ash and many types of shrubs – improves their natural resistance as well as speeds their recovery from a pest infestation.

Fall Fertilization - this is especially important for the following:

  • Tree & shrub root development occurs long after the leaves fall off – very important for young plant material to get fertilized.
  • Winter hardiness and food storage – very important for all your trees and shrubs, whatever age.

Tree & Shrub Pest Controls

This revolutionary process of root injection and Ace-caps enables us to control pests without spraying. The pest control is absorbed through the roots and trunk and moves with the sap into the leaves, protecting the plant from the roots to the tips of the branches. This targeted process protects your plants for 12 – 16 weeks, getting them through the critical insect reproductive period.

Vegetation Control

This is an important service to protect interlock walkways, graveled areas, sidewalks and curbs. Grass weeds growing in these areas will crack the cement –lift the stones and take over graveled beds.
